Baseball Stitch

A double row of sewing which runs along both sides of a seam. It is used for a decorative effect but also strengthens the seam.

Stress Welt

A cloth covered cord used to heavily strengthen and reinforce the seam on a sofa where the attached back cushions meet the back panel. Tension and stress in this area is common and the stress welt is used to prevent tearing.

Zippers on Back Cushions and Padded Arms

The purpose of these zippers is to access the dacron fill in the seat backs and arms. This allows the consumer to regulate the feel and look without needing a professional re-upholsterer. These zippers do not exist on tight back cushions or tight, non-padded, arms.

Removable Feet

With the exception of a few, the majority of the sofas come with the feet, also known as legs, unattached. The legs and hardware are placed in a bag that is temporarily secured to the frame when new. With the legs unattached, the sofa height is reduced, making it easier to get into smaller doorways and tight spaces. Sofas that have the legs already attached can remove the legs prior to delivery.

Removable Cushions with Zippered Cover

With the exception of a few, the majority of the sofas have removable cushions. Removable cushions allows the consumer to easily clean or vacuum the seat decking, makes it easier to find items lost between the cushions, and makes the replacement of a cushion a much easier process. Zippered access to the cushion core allows for regulation of fibers and also helps make the replacement process much easier. If a sofa has removable cushions, remove the LAF cushion to reveal the Product Information Sticker on the seat decking.

Product Information Sticker

Every item the Ashley makes is assigned an Item number or SKU. The item number for stationary merchandise can be broken down to determine the Style, Color, and Piece. The first 3 digits refer to the style of the item, the design and details and overall shape of an item. The next 2 digits are the color. If an item is available in different colors, the first 3 digits (style) will remain the same, and the color code will change. The final 2 digits refers to the piece. Here are a few examples of piece numbers. Sofa – 38, Loveseat – 35, Chair – 20, Ottoman – 14, Rocker Recliner – 25.

The clean code for fabrics can also be found on the Product Information Sticker. “W” stands for water based cleaning products, referring to a fabric that is relativily easy to clean using soap and water. “S” stands for solvent based cleaning fabrics, referring to a fabric that should only be cleaned by a professional or with dry-cleaning type products.
