1. The Frame

Frames are constructed from the following materials:

• Air Dried Hardwood and Plywood – Hardwood can be found on all the critical frame components, also known as stress points. “Mortise and Tenon” joint construction can be found in these high stress areas. Air drying removes moisture from the hardwood, preventing warping or cracking.

• Premium MDF Hardboards – MDF is a furniture grade composite wood found in the non-stress areas of the frame. Often used in home construction due to its high strength and stable properties, MDF is a durable material that is denser than plywood.

• Industrial Grade Laminates – Laminate Construction adds additional strength as well as design features

2. The Springs

Ashley sofas use a sinuous, “no-sag” spring design

All Ashley springs have a five year limited warranty

• Seat springs are made from 8 gauge galvanized steel
• There are roughly 4 to 5 springs per seat, with an additional set spring near the arms for added stability and comfort
• Springs are connected to a solid-wood spring rail supporting by an “L-block”, which prevents the spring clip rail from pivoting upward.
• Spring clips are coated with Teflon, to prevent squeaking.

 When a sofa is ordered as a sleeper sofa, the spring seat support is removed, and the sleeper mechanism is put in its place. In other words, there are no seat springs on a sleeper sofa. When someone sits on a sleeper sofa, they are now supported by the folded up sleeper mechanism.

Ashley sleeper sofas are not special order, instead they are running items just like any other product that Ashley manufactures. Most sleeper sofas are available in either Full or Queen, as well as a few Twin size Chair + 1/2 Sleepers. Ashley uses the same style sleeper mechanism on every sleeper.

• Are designed in such a way to be very easy to open and close, can be opened with one finger
• Are constructed from steel and a durable mesh webbing

Ashley Sleeper Mattresses

• Available in either innerspring or memory foam
• The type of mattress used on a sleeper is specific to the sofa; no special orders
• Are designed to be folded and opened
• Have a 3 Year Limited Warranty

3. Padding and Decking

Padding is added to provide comfort, shape, and durability. Each frame is given abundant padding so that the fabric doesn’t rub the wood frame. This protects the upholstery fabric from wear and adds softness to the shape and feel of the upholstered furniture. All outside edges of the arms are padded with heavy foam padding. Some of Ashley’s competitors use only a thin fiber padding in these areas.
